Ingredients

  • 1800 g potatoes
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 1/2 dl cream
  • 5 dl milk
  • 2 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 ml coarsely ground black pepper
  • 2 dl grated cheese

  1. Peel and cut the potatoes into 3–4 mm thick slices.
  2. Peel and finely grate or press the garlic.
  3. Boil cream, milk, garlic, salt and pepper in a Dutch oven. Add the potatoes and bring to a boil while stirring. Cook on medium heat, uncovered, until the potatoes are soft, about 20 minutes. Stir occasionally. Taste. Add more salt and pepper if necessary.
  4. Set the oven to 400°F/200°C.
  5. Pour the potato mixture into an ovenproof dish, approx. 35.5 cm x 21 cm (13.9” x 8.26”) . Distribute the grated chease on top.
  6. Bake in the middle of the oven for about 25 minutes. Let the gratin rest for about 30 minutes before serving, so it has time to set.
