Homemade Peanut Butter (Flexible Batch)

Homemade Peanut Butter Recipe

This homemade peanut butter is smooth, rich, and surprisingly simple to make with just one main ingredient: peanuts. It’s easy to tailor to your taste, whether you prefer it plain and naturally nutty, lightly sweetened, or with a hint of cinnamon. You can make small or large batches depending on what you need, and it comes together in minutes once the peanuts are ready. Roasting the peanuts first gives a deeper, more aromatic flavor, but you can also start with pre-roasted or even salted peanuts—just adjust the seasoning accordingly.

Ingredients

  • Peanuts (unsalted or salted)
→ Use any amount you like
Yield guide: ~1 cup peanuts ≈ 1 dl peanut butter

Salt guidance

  • If using unsalted peanuts: add up to ¼ tsp salt (to taste)
  • If using salted peanuts: do not add extra salt

Optional Seasoning (to taste)

Add after blending:

  • 1–3 tsp honey or maple syrup (for sweetness)
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon (or more, to taste)

Equipment

Instructions

1. Blend

Add peanuts to a food processor and blend continuously.

You’ll see the texture transform:

  • crumbly → thick paste → clumpy → smooth & creamy

This typically takes 8–10 minutes, depending on batch size and machine strength.
Pause if your processor gets warm, and scrape down the sides as needed.

2. Season

Once smooth:

  • Add salt only if using unsalted peanuts
  • Add optional sweetener and/or cinnamon

Blend again briefly until fully combined.

3. Cool & store

Let the peanut butter cool, then transfer to a sealed jar.

  • Store in the refrigerator
  • Keeps for about 1 month

How to Roast Peanuts (If Starting Raw)

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F)
  2. Spread peanuts in a single layer on a baking tray
  3. Roast for 10–20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes
  4. Remove when lightly golden and fragrant
  5. Let cool until warm before blending

Variations

Crunchy

Reserve some peanuts, then stir or pulse them in after blending.

Sweet

Add honey or maple syrup gradually to taste.

Note: Small amounts of honey or maple syrup may make the texture a bit thicker rather than runnier.

Cinnamon

Add ~½ tsp cinnamon for mild flavor, or more for a stronger profile.

Mixed Nut Butter

Swap part of the peanuts for:

  • almonds
  • cashews
  • walnuts
  • pecans
  • pistachios

Tips

  • 1 cup peanuts ≈ 1 dl peanut butter (scale up or down freely)
  • Taste your peanuts before blending—flavor matters
  • Avoid peanuts with added oils if possible
  • A food processor works better than a blender
