Puerto Rican Picadillo Empanadas Recipe

  • 1 pound/450 grams ground beef
  • 1/2 cup (4 ounces) canned tomato sauce
  • 2 heaping tbsp Puerto Rican Sofrito
  • 2 tbsp Spanish olives, chopped
  • 1 tsp adobo
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper



  1. In a large frying pan or Dutch oven, brown ground beef over medium heat. Stir in sofrito and cook for a few minutes.
  2. Stir in tomato sauce and some water, olives, adobo, oregano and garlic powder. Season generously to taste with salt and pepper. 
  3. Lower the heat to low and reduce until most of the water has evaporated.
