How to grow basil and other herbs from cuttings

Why waste money on fresh herbs when you can grow them easily at home?

Follow the instructions below and you'll always have fresh herbs for your cooking when you need them.

Instructions

1. Cut the stem above a node. If you want to make more than one cutting from a stem, count so that you get as many cuttings with a node at the bottom as possible. "Node" is the location where the leaves are attached to the stem.

2. Remove the stem leading up to the next node on the cutting. It's more likely to grow roots from the node (when the node is in the water), however, it grows roots most of the time even if the node is excluded from the stem.

3. Remove the leaves from the bottom node.

4. If you would like to make more than one cutting from a stem, make a new cut right above the second node from the bottom, immediately above the leaves. Put both cuttings in a glass of water.

Roots start to grow in 1-2 weeks.

5. When the cuttings have grown roots. Put the plants in potting soil in a pot with holes in the bottom and water regularly to make sure they are moist. When the cuttings start to grow they love to drink from a plate.
